A birthday Note

Today was my twenty sixth birthday, and I had a fabulous birthday full of surprises , laughter and lots of delightful pressies (and even some delicious ice cream). BTW I have the most amazing sweet husband who made a perfect day for me. At the end of the day I was faced with the question "what do i really want?" see sometimes i struggle with the everydayness of my life- is it going anywhere? am I making a mark on the world? am I achieving anything really?

After a little thinking about it and after i calmed my heart down I realised that there is one thing that motivates me everyday, every single day I cant escape it I cant run away from it I cant stop it. And that is TO MAKE, i don't think of myself as an artist or even a crafter I think I think of myself as a MAKER. ( some days i even wonder if i have been a bad mother by spending time making and not with my children, but the call is just so strong, what can a girl do??) If I could take the making one step further I would love to sell what I make, I would love to bring pleasure to others in some way.

This is the truth of my heart and I have been fighting it trying to find some way to fill it, mask it, rearrange it to fit others ideas.

So I think it is time for an update, refresh and make some goals for this year ahead......I am not exactly sure what those goals should be or where they will take me, but i am willing to go on the ride.

puppets, pancakes and a magical flying cape

Today Blake was talking to me about puppets and so inspired me to make some for him. They were very quickly whipped up- they had to be this little 3 yr old has no patients at all :) We made a bear and a chicken. Blake wants a pig next but i have no pink felt atm, will have to go and buy some.
Blake is a grubby little boy today, oh well aren't all boys supposed to be grubby :P

For lunch we made pancakes, Blake ate most of them!

And then Blake played with the cape I made him, he doesn't mind that it is spotty and has been flying around the house all day then suddenly he will spin around like superman and turn into a king, and I have to be the queen.
I think we might get back to lazy day skirt making tomorrow.....

Lazy Day Skirt

Here is proof that an adult can wear a lazy day skirt too :P I have made two skirts and I am loving them!! Also loving that they are so easy to make ;)I think somewhere along the way I have got the two patterns ( the lazy day skirt and the twirly skirt) sort of mixed up but I think they have still turned out well. I have added a drawstring into this one i just found that the elastic i had wasn't quite cutting it so I put the drawstring on the inside.

This one is based more on the twirly skirt but without the hem bit- what is the technical term?? lol. Any way i stuffed up the hem bit so i just cut it off and then sowed it without it. I have used ribbon for the drawstring on this one which i am loving too.

I prefer to wear them with more of the gather on the sides than the front- otherwise i feel a bit poofy or something :)
The only other thing that I would say about these skirts is that they are incredibly comfortable to wear ( I don't think I have worn anything as comfortable since I was little) and will be really nice and cool to wear in the summer time!

Lazy Day Skirt

Melissa Goodsell is having a sew along next week and i am going to join in. I'm not exactly sure how many I am going to make- I think I will wait and see as I go, but I have bought some fabrics to have a play with even though i probably have enough in my stash it is always nice to have some more ;)

I love the top fabric with the colourful flowers. I found them at spotlight- i was just supposed to be buying elastic and look what happened whoops he heee :)

Today is my bubba boys birthday, he is two today!

Happy Birthday Lukey Kookie!!!!!!

We love you so much.

This is him eating an oreo before breakfast- he ate four, I wouldn't normally let him eat oreos for breakfast but since it was his birthday- don't worry he ate his porridge right after all those oreos

A page, A bag and A cake

Friday I got a bit sick of having all this girly scrapbook product that i cant use, so I just went for it with this Lukey Kookie page I managed to embellish this bag at the end of last week
This weekend it was my nephews 2nd birthday and this week it is lukes 2nd birthday - they were both born a week early and they were still exactly a week apart. Anyway a cake was made but it didn't turn out , so I decided that i would try to make one....Paul and i had a talk about cakes and we had different ideas so we ended up having a bit of a competition and ended up with two cakes-which was good because we had two boys birthdays, it worked ok in the end :)

This was my first time making a cake like this so i was happy with how it turned out :)

1 October 2009

Blah blah blahhhh ;)

Yay it is the 1st of October . I love October because it is my birthday month, also there are lots of family birthdays between now and the end of November and then it will be Christmas. AND WE WILL BE MOVING IN TO THE HOUSE IN NOVEMBER, i am sure of it. We only have kitchen bathrooms and laundry, carpet and painting to go........I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, every day one of us says " were on the home stretch now", whenever the other is having a hard day or is sick of something surrounding us, its all ok because soon we will be in our own home. I have be indulging myself by imagining myself unpacking and putting away all of our things. It has been a three year stretch getting into this house and most of our things have been packed away for that long. Packing and unpacking doesn't usually excite me but this time i know that this is where my things are staying, where they will belong, where we will belong. And I choose where they go- I wont be dictated by my mother or by a land lord as to what i can do and where i can put things. Simple things, being able to put towels away in a linen cupboard (which by the way is huge YAY) Mount Torrens house had no linen cupboard at all and at my mums it is all shoved in together and is crammed in there. Just simple things like that that will make my life happier. Are you sick of me talking about the house now??? I cant help myself everything in the last three years boiling down to the next three months. TOO EXCITING
